The International Folklore Festival of Lefkada completes this year its 46th year of existence. It is an institution that promotes, since its foundation in 1962 by Antonis Tzevelekis, until nowadays, the idea of peace, friendship, togetherness but also solidarity among the people of the world through the
folk art forms of dance and music. Through the rich traditions and the acclaimed folk codes of expression and communication.

The International Folklore Festival of Lefkada is the oldest cultural institution of our country in the fields of danse and music, the world traditional heritage, with national and international recognition.

Via the imagination language and the creativity the people of the world meet for 45 consecutive years every August in Lefkada, exchanging the most precious they own: the creations of the spiritual and artistic expression as they have been carved through the centuries-old traditions.
To continue through the partaking of it and through the language of creation, launch new forms of communication and cooperation on a basis enabling them to jointly tackle the access right to difference. Because we all know that the art language mitigates other origins : political, social, economic etc. releasing the level of communication.

The Festival takes place at Chora (the capital) every last week of August, ( from Sunday to Sunday), starting with a big parade of peace and friendship, the opening ceremony (1st Sunday) with few minutes to show all groups, the gradual emergence during the week and reaches its climax with the grand closing ceremony, exchange gifts and the final dance of peace from all the groups together the second Sunday ..
